Infectious disease & vaccine monitoring

Research aim

Obtaining adequate samples for surveillance and epidemiology during phase 3 and 4 vaccine trials or monitoring real-world vaccine impact is often challenging. The disease and vaccine monitoring team addresses these challenges by expanding the use of first-void urine (FVU) as liquid genital tract biopsy. It also offers diagnostic services for ongoing vaccination trials.

By managing the HPV Prevention and Control Board (an independent, international, and multidisciplinary group of experts, created in 2015) the team enhances evidence-based guidance and reflection on strategic, technical, and policy issues regarding the implementation and sustainability of HPV prevention and control programs (www.hpvboard.org).

Finally, the group also supports the Coalition to Strengthen the HPV Immunization Community by setting up symposia in low and middle-income countries (www.stophpv.org).
